As a sound designer, I conceptualised and developed an original soundscore for Akasabi’s brand film for Mr Fox, a retail space in Defence Colony, New Delhi, designed by the architecture studio. The composition was built entirely from field recordings captured within the store, using its architectural elements and material surfaces as instruments. Sounds from terracotta surfaces, blinds, door hinges, frames and other environmental interactions were recorded, manipulated and layered to create an original sonic landscape.
Drawing from the studio’s architectural vision of an excavated subterranean space, continuous circulation and self-reflection, the soundscore sought to translate the physical and sensory experience of the store into an auditory journey. This allowed the architecture itself to become the source, instrument and narrative of the film. It accompanied the film’s dreamlike exploration of discovery, self-reflection, freedom and acceptance, creating a dialogue between sound, space, architecture and visual storytelling.
